Community rules

Last updated

guffgaff shows you what people within 5 km are saying. Your guffs carry your username and avatar, never your real name. That only works if people treat the people around them decently.

These rules cover every guff, comment, repost and username.

The rules

  1. Don’t target people. No harassment, bullying or pile-ons. Don’t name or describe a private person, like a classmate, neighbour, coworker or ex, to mock, accuse or shame them.
  2. Don’t share anyone’s personal information. No phone numbers, home addresses, email addresses, social media accounts or number plates, and nothing about where someone lives, works or studies. Don’t try to unmask who is behind a username.
  3. No hate. No slurs or attacks based on caste, ethnicity, religion, region, language, gender, sexual orientation or disability. Caste and ethnic slurs count as hate speech here, even as a joke.
  4. No threats or violence. Don’t threaten anyone, and don’t encourage or celebrate violence against a person or a group.
  5. Nothing illegal. Don’t buy, sell or arrange drugs, weapons or anything else that’s illegal in Nepal. No scams.
  6. No sexual content. No explicit sexual posts and no sexual harassment. Nothing sexual involving a minor, ever.
  7. No spam or gaming. No ads, repeated posts or chain messages. Don’t use extra accounts, vote swaps or a faked location to push guffs up or to farm masala points.
  8. Don’t pretend to be someone else. Don’t pose as guffgaff, a moderator or another real person.

Zero tolerance

These get the content removed and the account banned, without a warning:

  • anything sexual involving a minor
  • threats to hurt or kill someone
  • posting someone’s personal details so others can find or harass them (doxxing)
  • selling drugs or weapons

How moderation works

Votes

You can upvote or downvote a guff, and upvote a comment. A guff’s score is its upvotes minus its downvotes. When a guff’s score falls to −5 or lower, it drops out of the Nearby and Hot feeds. Each downvote on your guff also costs you 2 masala points.

Reports

Open a guff and tap the ··· button, or press and hold a comment, then choose Report and pick a reason. Each person can report a guff or comment once, and no one is told who reported it.

When 3 different people have reported a guff or comment, it is hidden from everyone except its author until a moderator reviews it.

Moderators

Moderators review reported guffs and comments. They can remove one, bring back one that reports hid, or close the reports with no action. A guff removed by a moderator costs its author 50 masala points.

Moderators can also ban an account. A banned account is logged out on every device and can’t log back in.

We can also stop guffs and comments that contain certain words from being posted at all.

Blocking

You can block someone from the same menu you use to report. Neither of you will see the other’s guffs, comments or reposts, and they aren’t told. You can unblock people in Settings.

Deleting your own

You can delete any guff or comment you wrote. It disappears for everyone. Replies to it stay, so the thread keeps its shape. Deleting a guff takes back the 5 masala points it earned.

Getting in touch

If someone is in danger, call Nepal Police on 100 first.

To report a specific guff or comment, use Report in the app. For anything else about these rules or a ban, email support@almadata.io.
